DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION

Tempera on panel, 250.5 x 177 cm.

Set in a scalloped frame, the depiction of the Annunciation unfolds in two parts: the Archangel is first shown in the heavens, receiving an olive branch from the hands of God, depicted half-length and floating within a circle formed by five seraphim surrounding him.

The olive branch is known as a symbol of peace, and it is this branch that Gabriel offers to the Virgin upon her arrival.

The Virgin is interrupted in her reading and, holding the book she had closed in her right hand, shows an expression of surprise at the sight of the angel who has come to bring her the news.

The scene takes place in front of a white stone building with classical elements, which opens onto the countryside on the first floor and, apparently, a colonnaded terrace on the second floor, which we must assume is Mary's home.
